Real Madrid fans had a week which was not as quiet as once expected.
No one was expecting any signings, to be absolutely fair, but I don't think anyone was expecting any rumblings about a potential exit, either.
It was a weird case, because no one actually ended up leaving, but there were rumblings. Weird rumblings.
Dani Ceballos, who looked set to stay this season due to a lack of offers for him from a certain club in Spain, weirdly posted a photo with the caption, "Last Dance".
Soon after, Marseille asked for him, and after reaching an agreement with Real Madrid, the French club tried to talk to Ceballos, who then decided to just say no after a few days of back and forth.
Dani Ceballos certainly put himself in an odd situation
Keep in mind, the move was close to happening - Ceballos reportedly wanted the move because he wanted to play the World Cup, but then, he ended up staying because he changed his mind and decided he only wanted to play for either Real Madrid or Real Betis.
Betis never came with an offer for the player, and now, after a week, this whole saga was pointless.
Xabi Alonso was asked about it in his press conference before the Mallorca game, to which he said: "I spoke with him, and the decision was made that he's staying. My opinion doesn't change anything. He's staying; he's just another member of the squad. And I'm happy with him."
I mean, he would not say that it was a weird situation, because as long as there is an extra man in midfield - Real Madrid's weakest position in terms of depth - then he would be happy. However, it is weird to be involved with that.
Alonso also said that any detail about the transfer saga would come straight from the horse's mouth, and that is fair - but it was weird. Ceballos is not the first player to be involved in an odd situation like this, and he certainly would not be the last one, but it is just tough to see why he would say these things on social media only to then stay at the club.
It is also difficult to understand why he would express an interest to leave the club only to then change his mind about the whole thing, moments before everythign was done.
Either way, I hope Ceballos is able to stay important this season, as Alonso would need his talents on a consistent basis.
