Even though Xabi Alonso won a Champions League at the club and was held in high regard at the Santiago Bernabeu for years, there has to be some bad blood between Real Madrid and their former manager after the way things went down last season. Alonso got fired mere months into taking the job, as Real and president Florentino Perez no longer believed in his ideas or man management, cutting him after poor results and apparent locker room issues.
As anyone would have expected, it did not take long for another marquee club to believe in Alonso, who is now the manager of Chelsea. Already, Real Madrid and Chelsea have done some serious business in the transfer market, with Real signing away one of Alonso's top players before he got a chance to work with them, bringing in Spanish national team left back Marc Cucurella for 60 million euros at the behest of Jose Mourinho.
Still, Real Madrid want to sign an even bigger fish from Stamford Bridge in center midfielder Enzo Fernandez, who is a 120-150 million euro rated player and now Mourinho's No. 1 pick for the No. 6 position.
Xabi Alonso wants to take a player from Real Madrid
But Xabi Alonso may not play nice with Real Madrid now. According to a report from Miguel Serrano, via the Madrid Zone, the Spanish manager wants to stop his old employers from signing Fernandez and will do his best to block their dream midfield transfer of the summer. Furthermore, if Real were to still land Enzo, who has said for months that he wants to go to the Santiago Bernabeu, then Alonso will push to steal Aurelien Tchouameni right back from them, and he was a huge fan of the Frenchman's during the 2025/26 season.
The interest in Tchouameni is no surprise. Manchester United and other Premier League clubs have been linked, but Alonso is the one who had a great working relationship with the player, to the point where he and Fede Valverde may have still been literally fighting about his dismissal months later.
Alonso has a chance to make things very uncomfortable for Florentino Perez and get some revenge on Real Madrid by either making an Enzo Fernandez transfer impossible or, more likely, by making it a very annoying ordeal that jacks up the player's price. And then on top of that, he could take Tchouameni from them, too, and get revenge by helping Tchou finally fulfill his potential.
