One of the biggest pieces of transfer news this summer has come in the form of Xabi Alonso being announced as the new manager at Chelsea. The Spaniard is back in management following his sacking by Real Madrid, and although he has quite the task on his hands at Chelsea, a fresh start is exactly what he needs in his young managerial career. Chelsea are expected to undergo a major rebuild this summer under Xabi Alonso and he is planning to start his rebuild with one of the most ambitious transfers in history.

As being reported by TalkSport, Kylian Mbappe has been tipped to make a sensational move to Chelsea this summer, with new Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso eager to bring the Frenchman to Stamford Bridge, believing he will instantly transform Chelsea into title contenders. The player and coach had a strong relationship during his short time in charge and could look to rekindle that relationship in the Premier League.

Xabi Alonso's Chelsea rebuild off to an ambitious start

Bringing in Xabi Alonso could help Chelsea attract some big signings this summer, but Mbappe would be the creme de la creme of signings that no one would have seen coming. The Frenchman is one of the best players in the world, and for a club like Chelsea that is looking to get back to the top of the Premier League, this would be a statement signing by Xabi Alonso. Mbappe was the centerpiece of Alonso's system, bagging 29 goals in 24 games across all competitions and would bring a new level to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea's attack is in desperate need of reinforcement so it's not surprising that seems to be where Xabi Alonso is starting his rebuild. Joao Pedro was far and away Chelsea's best attacker this season with 20 goals and nine assists in 50 games across all competitions, but other than him no other attacker made much of an impact. Chelsea are expected to offload a number of attackers like Liam Delap and Pedro Neto to make room for new signings, with Mbappe being the biggest dream.

Mbappe could slot right into Alonso's Chelsea perfectly, playing a front three of Mbappe, Joao Pedro, and Cole Palmer would be a deadly attacking trio assembled by the former Real Madrid manager easily capable of fighting for the Premier League title next season.

However there are still a number of hurdles in the way of a potential move, the biggest being the fee. Florentino Perez worked tirelessly for years to bring Mbappe to the Bernabeu and he won't be too keen to part ways so quickly and would easily ask for a fee that would rival Neymar's record €222 million fee. Another hurdle being whether or not the player himself wants the move. While he didn't have the best of times under Alvaro Arbeloa, a new manager will be coming in giving Mbappe a new lease to life at Real Madrid. So while this transfer makes sense on paper in some ways, in reality, Mbappe won't be going anywhere anytime soon.
