Real Madrid fans cannot complain after the kind of start they have had this season.

Real Madrid have scored six goals, conceded one in three wins out of three. That is a good start for any club, and no different for the biggest one in the pond.

Xabi Alonso has a few things he has yet to fix, of course - nothing is built in one month - but these have been great signs.

Now, the squad will break up for the international break, and then they will start the actual season.

Everyone at the club has been labelling these three games as the team's pre-season, so it'll be interesting to see how much of an improvement there is after this.

Alonso was himself asked about his verdict on how good the team has been so far, and he gave an extensive answer.

Alonso thinks Real Madrid have improved since he first joined

He said: “We're better than we were at the start. Looking at things, results are important; they confirm our line of work.

"The Champions League is next, and we have to fine-tune things. But I'm happy. Today's game was a series of stages.

"We didn't get into the game the best, but then we improved, but the pressure wasn't very tight. We have to do a bit better; we've been doing very well.

"We created more than we did against Osasuna against a low block again. There are better things and worse things. Let's keep trying.”

That is a fair assessment, I feel. I mean, we are talking about a team that was really bad last season.

To build it back up, brick by brick, it is going to take some time. Now, there have been improvements, and it's interesting to see how many there will be over the course of the next couple of months.

Real Madrid's defense has improved, their structure and shape have looked much better than they used to last season.

Their attack looks less laboured and with more intent, which is also fun to see.

But, also, there are things to fix. The press isn't always there. They need to figure out how to use Vinicius Jr and Kylian Mbappe more coherently. But, as they always say, Rome was not built in a day.

Alonso is a great coach, and it will take time, but everyone must give him the time he deserves. Seven wins, a draw and a loss in nine games is a great start. Let Xabi cook.
