Real Madrid beat eternal rivals Barcelona 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu, and their fans had a weekend to remember.

After so much controversy surrounding the game, it was Real Madrid who came out victorious in a really good performance that gave a lot of ammunition to Xabi Alonso to keep going and improving this team.

Real Madrid looked good in a big game for the first time in a very long while, and there is a lot of credit that goes to every player, every coach, every single person who is linked with Real Madrid directly.

There is still a lot of work to be done if Real Madrid wants to achieve what they set out to achieve this season, but this would be a good few steps forward.

However, there was one incident during the match that irked Real Madrid fans a little bit, and it involved Vinícius Júnior and Xabi Alonso.

Alonso called for Vini Jr to be subbed off, resulting in a negative reaction from Vini for the entire sporting world to see. He was seen complaining about it as he walked straight into the dressing room initially, before rejoining his teammates on the bench shortly after.

Xabi Alonso aims to handle the Vinicius Jr situation privately

Alonso was obviously asked about this in the post-match press conference at the Santiago Bernabeu, to which he gave a very simple answer that explained his intentions quite well.

He said: "Let me focus on beautiful things, good things. We did great and Vini was a big part of it, he did very well.

“We will talk about his reaction, for sure we will… we will do it in private. Now I want to focus on good things."

Vini Jr was a big part of Real Madrid's win over Barcelona. Understandably, any big player does not want to leave the pitch in such a big game, after such a huge part to play in that much-needed win.

However, the reaction was a different topic. It is good that Alonso aims to handle it privately. That is what everyone expected would happen, and that is what Real Madrid will do now.

Vini Jr has a right to be angry about being subbed off despite being one of the better players, but it is also not a good look for him, Alonso or the club if he shows that much public dismay towards the decision.

It remains to be seen what happens now, but it is a good thing that this situation will be handled privately.
