The France national team easily swept aside Morocco 2-0 in the quarterfinals, with Kylian Mbappe doing Real Madrid proud by scoring and assisting to make a record two World Cups with at least 10 goal contributions.
But while Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele earned the goal scoring plaudits, the most keenly attuned footballing minds could not stop raving about Michael Olise. Playing in the No. 10 role instead of on the right wing, Olise pulled the strings in the midfield and ran circles around Morocco's in vogue prospect Ayyoub Bouaddi, creating clear cut chances for Mbappe and Co. while progressing the ball between the lines and in tight spaces with delicate touches.
Whether on the CBS broadcast in the Champions League or on FOX for this World Cup, Thierry Henry has never made his feelings about Olise shy, constantly raving about the Bayern Munich man as one of the world's best and someone who just sees the game differently from everybody else. After all, he was his coach with the French youth national team before he blew up globally.
Michael Olise is a playmaker
Henry's co pundit Zlatan Ibrahimovic, another legendary striker, has been equally as impressed with Olise, and the two pulled their best NFL crossover comparison at Gillette Stadium, likening the passing and the way Olise was engineering the offense for France to New England Patriots legend Tom Brady, the GOAT of the other football.
Ibrahimovic said on the FOX broadcast, via iMiaSanMia, "He did amazing again. He was the point guard. The 'Tom Brady of France' today. When you have a player like Olise, don’t think. Just run and the ball will arrive – and it will arrive exactly where you want it."
Menwhlie, Thierry Henry stated, "I want to talk about the pass of Michael Olise. As soon as you get the ball, it’s over. We’re here in Foxborough… Tom Brady, that’s one of your loop passes in between."
That is something about Michael Olise that gets very underrated, and with it being presented in the mainstream like this at the World Cup with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thierry Henry, the two biggest names in broadcasting highlighting it, Florentino Perez's attention has to be piqued.
Perez is obsessed with Olise and has been for months, and he may be prepared to throw serious money at Bayern Munich. Because he views Olise as the missing piece for a full, world class front three at the Santiago Bernabeu, and if Olise can quarterback this team and create to a level the other Madrid players cannot as that Tom Brady equivalent, then that is all the more reason for Flo to spend big time on him.
