It would be a huge surprise if Real Madrid attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard didn’t spend one more year in San Sebastian.

Real Madrid attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard was one of La Liga’s best players in 2019-2020 before the restart, as patellar tendinopathy prevented the Norwegian from being as effective. Odegaard’s injury situation and the uncertainty has cast a cloud over his bright future, but everyone seems to be optimistic that with rest, Odegaard can get back to his world-class trajectory.

While both Real Madrid and Odegaard have options, the young playmaker has always been expected to stay one more year with La Real. The news of patellar tendinopathy may have made Madridistas a little distrustful of Odegaard’s current club, but that likely won’t be the case with Madrid itself. There are a lot of factors to consider.

The most important factor is Odegaard’s own wish. And according to a report from Libertad Digital’s Alfredo Somoza, Odegaard has already informed Los Blancos that he wants to spend one more year on loan at La Real.

He seems to have a great deal of trust in Imanol Alguacil, who has built a high-powered attack, which nearly lifted Real Sociedad to the Champions League, around Odegaard. He’s believed in Odegaard and allowed the creative No. 10’s skills to flourish, as Odegaard has helped get the most out of top attackers like Portu and future superstar Mikel Oyarzabal.

Real Sociedad is best for Odegaard’s development, and Los Blancos also seem to understand this. It appears it is all but settled that Odegaard will remain at Sociedad, and it will be interesting to see if Takefusa Kubo, who also had a great season on loan at Mallorca, will join him.

La Real are building something special, and with Odegaard remaining as the centerpiece, they can make a big push for Champions League football and be competitive in the Europa League, assuming they clinch a spot.
