Real Madrid should continue to allow Martin Odegaard to flourish on loan.

Martin Odegaard has been one of the most riveting success stories in European football. The Real Madrid loanee has helped Real Sociedad play exciting attacking football, and the club is in position to qualify for the Europa League, though the competitive nature of La Liga makes European football far from a guarantee for 2020-2021.

Still, Odegaard has shown clear class, and he is already nearing the “world-class” bracket. But before he gets there and is ready to be a regular starting No. 10 for the most prestigious club in the world, Odegaard needs to continue to develop consistency, especially when it comes to directly contributing to goals.

As such, Sergio Sanchos Chozas of AS recently reported that Real Madrid and their young star midfielder have agreed that it is in their mutual interest for Odegaard to remain with Real Sociedad for the second year of a two-year loan.

More from The Real Champs

Odegaard has been handed the keys to the kingdom at La Real, and he’s done nothing but reward the club’s faith in him. The Norway international can score wonderful goals, set up teammates on a platter, force defenders into mistakes, and silkily carry the ball into scoring situations.

Over the past several months, there has been an intense debate about Odegaard’s future. He’ll stay with La Real if Luka Modric stays with Real Madrid. Los Blancos need him in lieu of a summer signing.

Odegaard needs one more year before he can truly be great. There have been contradictory rumors, varying opinions from experts and managers, and no shortage of intrigue surrounding one of La Liga’s most valuable players.

But now, it’s becoming clear that Odegaard’s 2020-2021 season lies at Sociedad, where he can help the club produce an even more special season to build on their 2019-2020 success thus far.

With the veteran Portu, talented Alexander Isak, steady Mikel Merino, and impeccable Mikel Oyarzabal, Odegaard has an enviable supporting cast to pull the strings with.

Patience often pays off for Los Blancos. In Isco, Marco Asensio, and Toni Kroos, Real Madrid have players capable of being excellent attacking midfielders for 2020-2021. They can wait one more year for Odegaard, whose regular playing time and free creative role at Real Sociedad could yield an even richer harvest of talent for Los Blancos.

Odegaard is a rapidly-progressing attacking midfield talent, and he is a key part of the future at the Santiago Bernabeu. And based on what Florentino Perez and Zinedine Zidane have done in their careers, they do not hurry the development of a young superstar.
