May 7, 2008: Real Madrid 4 – FC Barcelona 1

One of the sweetest El Clasico’s for Real Madrid came in the third to last match of the 2007/2008 campaign with the La Liga title already clinched by Los Blancos in their previous win. Barcelona had one of their down years finishing third behind Villarreal and watched their rivals win the league by a comfortable 8 points.

In a wet night at the Santiago Bernabeu, this game, much like most of the season, was a beatdown from start to finish for Real. It started in the 13th minute with a goal from Real Madrid legend Raul as he blasted a perfect shot from just outside the box, followed shortly thereafter by Robben banging home a header off a free kick by Sergio Ramos.

Shortly after the hour mark, Higuan came on as a sub and scored the third goal of the evening with a nice piece of dribbling through the Barcelona defense and Ruud van Nistelrooy’s penalty were plenty as Los Blancos took care of business, solidifying their emphatic league win.
