Isco Set to Sign a New Deal at Real Madrid, Extending his Contract Until 2022
By Alex McVey
Real Madrid are set to give Isco a new contract, extending his stay at the club until 2022. Alex McVey gives you the latest on Isco’s status at Madrid.
Marca are reporting that Isco is set to sign a new contract at Real Madrid, extending his stay in Madrid until the summer of 2022. According to the report, the bandy-legged beauty is set to become the sixth best paid player in Madrid’s squad, after Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, Sergio Ramos, Toni Kroos, and Luka Modric.
Not bad for the 12th man on Zidane’s team sheet.
This should put some minds at ease at Real Madrid, as the ex-Malaga star has been the subject of intense transfer speculation. A number of reports have said that Isco was set to leave Spain for the English Premier League, with Chelsea and Liverpool the most likely destinations.
Perhaps the most absurd of these rumors speculated that Isco would be heading to Madrid’s eternal rivals, FC Barcelona.
The evidence to back up this outlandish claim? An Instagram photo of Isco eating a bag of Barca branded potato chips.
Hopefully the club will confirm Isco’s new contract soon, and put these rumors to bed. Despite getting limited minutes this season, Isco has been in fine form whenever he gets an opportunity.
Isco played a key role in Madrid’s demolition of Atletico Madrid in the fall. He also single-handedly dismantled Sporting de Gijón with two goals, just last week.
If Isco does extend his contract at Madrid, it may indicate that Zidane has put Isco’s mind at ease about getting more match time. The young Spaniard has not been shy about telling the media that he wants more minutes.
And who can blame him? While he’s been an important squad player for Zidane, a player of his quality ultimately deserves to be starting week-in and week-out.
