Real Madrid added Marco Asensio to the long list of players to recently sign a contract extension with the club. His new contract has him tied to the club until 2023

Asensio joins many of his compatriots in extending his contract with the Spanish giants for the next five years. The announcement was made yesterday on Real Madrid’s official social media outlets with the press conference and formalities following up earlier today.

"“I’m young and every year I have to keep growing and improving things.”"

Humble Beginnings

The signing did not garner as much as attention as it would have had it been a “galactico” but Asensio has proven to be his own kind of stealthy galactico. His energy and movement on and off the pitch as well as on and off the ball have proven to do wonders for Madrid. Unlike today’s signing, Marco came from very humble beginnings.

The boy from Mallorca was always a Real Madrid fan, dawning a kit from a very young age. Unfortunately, the young man lost his mother at age 12 but with the help of his father and brother made his dreams come true. Marco was initially brought to the attention of Real Madrid President Florentino Perez by fellow countryman and international tennis star Rafael Nadal.

"“It’s all gone a little fast but I’ve been able to take it well thanks to my family who have supported me in the good times and the harder times. All this is thanks to them.”"

While at Real, Marco has earned his place and the privilege of being a part of the Spanish giants. Asensio was able to beat out James Rodriguez who is currently on loan at Bayern Munich and earn himself a regular spot in the squad.

Today, there is no doubt that the Spanish starlet has earned his keep at Real and deserves to be a part of the club just as much as those around him. Let’s hope that he stays true to himself and continues progressing in all aspects.

Goalaso after Goalaso

Asensio has scored in his debut of every major competition with Real Madrid both domestic and global. His biggest goals have come in the latter half of this year with a wonderful finish in the Champions League Final against Juventus as well as screamers against Barcelona in both legs of the Spanish Super Cup.

"“The goal in the Champions League final, it’s a dream goal. To be able to compete in a Champions League final, to win it with Real Madrid and to score was incredible and exciting.”"

Apart from the goals that cover every major sports outlet around the world, Asensio has been bagging assists, showing his contribution to the team in more than just one way. Asensio’s hard work ethic and drive has been appreciated by both his coach and star man Cristiano Ronaldo.

Future of Madrid

At the young age of 21 and with a football IQ well beyond his years, he will look to make his mark in the White shirt of Los Blanco’s over the next few years. Earlier this year in the summer transfer window there was some speculation as to whether Asensio would remain at the Bernabéu or be heading off to the Premier League with attention from multiple teams such as Liverpool, Manchester United, and Arsenal.

Asensio has shown his maturity without any backlash towards his coach. Asensio stated in his presser that he understands there are other players ahead of him in Zidane’s pecking order but shows poise and patience in knowing that his time will surely come as he continues to make more and more appearances.

"“The coach already knows how he has to deal with me. I have my goals and my goal is to always play. I understand that there are other players and we have to share minutes because we are a team and last year we won everything like that.”"

It is a great step forward for Real Madrid to lock down the footballer for the next five years and knowing he will be accessible to Zidane in the attacking third screams success for Madrid fans. Congratulations to Marco Asensio, we are all excited to see what he will continue to bring to the great club of Real Madrid.
