Transfer rumors: What to make of Robert Lewandowski to Real Madrid
By Ben Sundock
It seems like there have been constant reports from around Europe that Robert Lewandowski is nearing a move to Real Madrid. But, do these rumors have any truth to them? Let’s take a look.
He has been the man up top at Bayern Munich since 2014 scoring 142 goals in 184 appearances. Now, however, the media is convinced that Lewandowski is ready to move on from the German league and make the jump over to Spain.
Reported first by Spanish outlet, Mundo Deportivo, everyone in the footballing world is up in arms as Robert has reportedly agreed to terms with Los Blancos.
The first reports from Mundo said that Lewan had reached a “gentleman’s agreement” to come aboard, but now, they are reporting that a two-year deal has been agreed upon with Lewandowski’s signing the last step to make the deal final.
From what I’ve seen from the Spanish media while covering Real Madrid, I don’t believe this.
An interesting side note to these rumors and why this could maybe happen is Lewandowski has now played in Germany for eight years and has won the league title five times. Don’t you think he might want to explore and go to a different league while he is still a hot commodity?
Rumors from Marca have said that the striker is pushing for a move to Real Madrid and would accept a deal if the defending La Liga champs came calling.
But, even if the player wants to make a move, that doesn’t mean the club is willing to let him go. Bayern Munich reportedly denied that they Robert would be leaving and went as far to say they are not willing to even sit down with Real Madrid officials to talk about the transfer.
Personally, I don’t think Lewan will make his way to the Spanish capital. While everyone is up in arms seeing that a deal has been agreed upon “in principle”, I don’t believe it at all.
When I saw that Lewandowski had agreed to a deal, I was very excited. However, upon further investigation, seeing that Robert had agreed to join on a “gentleman’s agreement,” my excitement immediately disappeared.

That phrase means nothing in the football world.
If you were like me and got your hopes up that the new starting striker for Real Madrid would be Robert Lewandowski, push that hope to the back of your mind. We as fans must wait until the summer to see what really happens.
When Robert Lewandowski puts pen to paper and Real Madrid officially announces his signing for the club, only then will I get excited.
But for now, all these rumors mean nothing.
