The negatives from the win

It is hard to find many negatives after this match. One area I would highlight is the slow start from the team again. I understand that there are a lot of changes happening in the squad from match-to-match, but the sluggishness and errant passes were apparent for the first 15 or so minutes.

Otherwise, the defensive play was stout, chances were created on the attacking end, and the goalkeeping was solid.

Players who struggled

I am going to put Dani Carvajal’s name in here because of the unfortunate own goal he was credited for in the first half, but that’s not to say he didn’t play well. He recovered nicely after the mistake but looked the rustiest of any player out there at the beginning.

Next. Real Madrid name Albert Celades as assistant coach. dark

Karim Benzema was once again a ghost in this match. He tried to play as a false nine and drop into the midfield to provide help, but was ineffective in doing so. I believe he didn’t have a shot in this match and was understandably substituted out at the half.

When/will we see the return of the goalscoring machine of The Big Benz?

Real Madrid has a quick turnaround before their final match in the US as they will travel to New Jersey to face AS Roma on Tuesday.
