Real Madrid could look for new attacking options

Following a fresh injury to summer purchase Mariano Diaz, Perez and the board have reportedly grown tired of the lack of goals and will seek to move for fresh targets.
Spanish outlet, AS, have reported that Real Madrid are considering their options upfront. Mariano Diaz, who returned to the club in the summer, has picked up an injury – his third this term. Facing a few weeks on the sidelines with a nerve issue, the higher-ups at the club are frustrated and will look to strengthen their attacking options.
According to the same report – Madrid have now returned to their targets in Inter Milan forward, Mauro Icardi and RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner. Madrid are currently struggling for goals with this season being their worst in-front of goal since the 2006/07 season. Karim Benzema is currently the teams best scorer with 11 followed by Gareth Bale on 10. The former, whilst in good form, can be inconsistent and Bale’s injury record doesn’t fill many with confidence. Perhaps the worst stat for reading would be the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo finished 2018 as Real Madrid’s top scorer, despite leaving the club last summer.
With Mariano only managing a single goal in 502 minutes, Werner or Icardi would certainly boost the Merengues fortunes in front of goal. Werner has scored 20+ goals in all competitions in every season since joining Leipzig – he’s already scored 14 and assisted 2 in his 21 appearances this term. Alongside this, he is averaging a goal every other game currently. At just 22 years old, the German is highly rated to become a world-class star. He could be available for a figure between 30-60 million euros with his contract up next summer.
The other target is Argentine goal-machine, Mauro Icardi. The former Barcelona has been a consistent scorer since joining Inter Milan having scored a remarkable 120 goals in just 201 appearances for the club. Multiple reports are suggesting that the player wants to progress his career and win more silverware and would love a move to Real Madrid. The club could have signed the forward this past summer when his release clause was just 100 million euros. However, the club didn’t exercise the option and subsequently the clause is now gone. With Inter exiting the UCL, Madrid could try and entice the forward once again who is apparently open to a move. Though, it would cost well over 100 million Euros.
With the January window now open, Madrid are certainly in need of options to kickstart the second half of the campaign, Madrid fans worldwide will surely be watching the next few weeks closely with hopes of a big money signing.
