As Real Madrid president Florentino Perez sat in his chair, his face resembled a little boy who had finally been allowed to go watch his first concert to see his favorite artist take the stage. As for Zinedine Zidane, he looked like a man on a mission and someone who came back as confidently as he left nine months ago.

After nine months of frustration and a realization that our beloved club really needs a revamp in order to reach the heights they have been reaching in the past few years, the former player turned manager returned to the club and promised us all some “big changes”.

We got a minor glimpse at just how in control the Frenchman will be this summer as he named players such as Isco and Marcelo in the starting lineup during his first match in charge as Los Blancos picked up a much-needed 2-0 win against Celta de Vigo.

Of course, given how the season has gone, Madridista’s everywhere are simply waiting for this season to end and they will be using the next ten matches as an extended preseason as Zidane looks to see what changes he will be making.

When there isn’t a Real Madrid match going on, the rumors are in full flow as Kylian Mbappe, N’Golo Kante, Paul Pogba, Christian Eriksen, Sadio Mane, Eden Hazard, Harry Kane, Luka Jovic, and many more players have been heavily linked to the club, which we should be extremely cautious about.

Many Real Madrid fans are expecting massive changes to be made to the squad and even though that potentially could happen, it probably isn’t something the club or manager wants. Real Madrid has a strong base and extremely talented players on their roster.

This isn’t me attempting to take us back to the embarrassing way Los Blancos announced Julen Lopetegui’s dismissal as they focused on the “eight Ballon d’Or nominees” but we shouldn’t forget the assets within the club and build from that.

Certain players such as Gareth Bale are expected to leave and be replaced accordingly while the team will want to strengthen their full squad in order to give Zidane more confidence when rotating some players.

Also, players such as Luka Modric, Marcelo, and Sergio Ramos aren’t getting younger and the board may look to replacements for them whether short-term or long-term. With the first signing under Zidane having been announced already in Eder Militao, it shows that the board is willing to do what it takes to get the correct names to the club.

Having said that, don’t expect the transfer rumors to lessen until the end of the summer transfer window as they’ll probably increase as time goes on.

As you scroll through Twitter at any given time, you’re bound to see countless posts regarding what the fans are expecting to see from the club; even a few people predicting a massive revamp which includes David De Gea as the new goalkeeper and a frontline of Mbappe, Neymar, and Mauro Icardi. I think it’s safe to assume nothing this drastic will happen.

What Real needs right now and especially throughout the summer transfer window are patience and caution. Let the tabloids make their assumptions and if you get excited about anything said by them, try not to believe them until things are made official.

Splashing money all over this team is not the way to move forward and I can say that with absolute certainty because we have been there and done this before. Real Madrid was lucky enough to replace a manager and bring back the person who has delivered a lot of success over the past three years. Now, we let him focus on the team. He left the club because he felt that he couldn’t take this particular squad forward but now since he is back, there is a reason.

Let Zinedine Zidane steer this ship forward and no matter how he decides to go about the summer transfer window, we owe him the trust that we haven’t shown anyone in the past. Everyone would love to have players like Mbappe and Icardi on the team, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that Real Madrid can get them nor does it mean that they will move forward in trying to pursue their signatures.

Zizou is using the next ten games to decide who he can count on for next season and who should be replaced. For all you know, players such as Keylor Navas, Luka Modric, and Marcelo may not be Real Madrid players by the end of August.

The upcoming summer holds up a screen that none of us can see through right now. Therefore, let’s proceed with trust and belief. Zidane deserves that from the fans. If he succeeds, that is great. If not, then we see how things go if we reach that point.

One thing is for sure though: if there is any man who should try and bring Real Madrid back to life, that man is Zinedine Zidane.
