Loans and Sales

Another important aspect of managing youth is astute loans. Madrid has many players out on loan currently. Should the likes of James, Hakimi, Raul de Tomas, Kovacic, and Odegaard be brought back?

Should the likes of Llorente, Mariano, Brahim, Vallejo, and Valverde be loaned out? The club has huge talent sitting in the team already – to bring back the ones who have honed their skill enough and to send out the ones who need minutes to develop is a crucial aspect of the Pavones strategy.

It is also important to remember that transfer windows are not just about buying right, they are also about selling right. Players like Bale and Modric should be sold this season.

Most likely Kovacic will leave too if the Chelsea transfer ban does not block it. Sell the players who no longer fit in the squad and use the money to build the team for the next 6-7 years.

Zidane and Perez have a huge responsibility on their heads in this window. More so for Zidane. He came back on the pretext of having more control on the transfers, and to build this squad on his own terms.

He was handed one of the best squads in history in 2016, but he has to shape the future now. This is a bigger challenge for him, one that can either dent or cement his legacy.

He has the responsibility to ‘Make Real Madrid great again’.
