Real Madrid: Top 5 performances from win over Leganes
LW Eden Hazard
This is the Eden Hazard that Real Madrid spent nine figures for. Hazard had a strong game against Granada before the international break, scoring his first goal and “assisting” his first goal in a White kit.
But this was Hazard’s most complete performance in a Real jersey. He’s shown the ability to burn defenders and draw fouls almost at will, but he was on a different level against Leganes, who looked like a group of amateurs when faced with Hazard’s wizardly dribbling skills.
Per WhoScored.com, Hazard completed seven successful dribbles and drew seven fouls against Leganes, recording two key passes in the process. The No. 7 somehow did not have an assist, but his work was critical in the team’s 5-0 victory. Hazard continues to look more comfortable in the team, and his improvement when directing counterattacks is evidence of this. The chemistry between Karim Benzema and him still isn’t quite there yet, but it’s definitely “getting there”.
Hazard’s talent has never been in question, even as some extreme comments have been thrown around by members of the fan base. The reality is that Hazard has needed some time to show his star quality, and it looks like he’s basically attaining that level of play. This was a sublime performance from the Belgian.
