Real Madrid were previously linked to center midfielder Christian Eriksen, but the Tottenham star looks poised to join Inter Milan this winter.
Although Christian Eriksen pushed for a move to Real Madrid, Los Blancos clearly don’t need to sign the Denmark international. Los Blancos are loaded in the attacking midfield with Toni Kroos playing as well as any player at the position this season, Isco getting back on form, Luka Modric showing his class, and James Rodriguez playing quality football when healthy.
Therefore, it’s no surprise to see that the links between Real and Eriksen have cooled off over the past month after it once seemed like Eriksen would inevitably sign a contract with Los Blancos. His deal with Tottenham expires upon the conclusion of the 2019-2020 campaign, but it seems more likely that he will move teams this winter so that Spurs can recoup a modest transfer fee.
All sorts of teams have been linked to Eriksen, but PSG and Inter have recently emerged as favorites. PSG seem willing to give Eriksen a hefty payday, while Inter look like the best fit for the Denmark star on paper, especially since manager Antonio Conte seems keen on adding the playmaker to his midfield.
According to a report from Ekstra Bladet, via AS, Eriksen is closing in on a deal with Inter. The move is reportedly “being developed” and could be for a fee of 20 million euros. Per the Denmark-based paper, the signing will likely be completed in a matter of “weeks”.
Inter could use Eriksen, whose set pieces and chance creation make him one of the world’s better attacking midfielders. He had some true moments of magic at Spurs over the years, including some sumptuous finishes from outside the box.
Real Madrid won’t have any regrets about missing out on Eriksen. While he is a quality player who can be signed on the cheap (not including wages, which won’t be cheap), Real have better attacking midfielders in Isco and Kroos. For Los Blancos, signing a young defensive midfielder is the bigger priority, especially since a player like Rennes’ Eduardo Camavinga is available.
