When Real Madrid published their squad list, everyone’s first thoughts surely turned to Luka Jović finally getting some minutes, thanks to the exclusion of Karim Benzema. And rightly so. With Benzema out, it’s Jović’s chance to shine.

Karim Benzema is the teams’ leading goalscorer with 16 goals in all competitions and Los Blancos have struggled to score when he isn’t scoring. It’s a huge concern and with Luka Jović not getting enough game time, there haven’t been any strong goal-scoring options off the bench for Real. But with Benzema out, this is Jović’s chance to get some game time and gel with how the team plays.

Against Valencia, it will be important for Real Madrid to take their chances efficiently. Without Eden Hazard in the lineup, Los Blancos have struggled to create too many chances. So it’s going to be very important for Madrid’s attackers to finish off their chances.

While we haven’t seen much of Jović at Real, his days at Frankfurt clearly show that he’s an efficient attacker and a great goal-scorer with his head. There’s a very good chance that Los Blancos will resort to crosses in the game against Valencia, as they have a stubborn defense. In a scheme like that, Jović will get his chances to showcase his ability and if Real are to win this one, the onus will be on Luka Jović and his finishing.
