Supercopa: Three takeaways from Real Madrid’s thrilling win over Atletico
By Ben Sundock
The Supercopa title means more than you may think
Real Madrid’s win over Atletico Madrid should not be overlooked. While there will likely not be a parade and ceremony around the fountain Cibeles in the capital, Madridistas should be extremely proud of their team’s achievement.
It is never easy to travel a long distance and play two cup matches against two quality opponents while still dealing with league and Champions League play. Plus, without Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, and Eden Hazard, Real managed to come away with the trophy.
Zidane managed to balance his lineup and got the most out of the players at his disposal, which surprisingly included Mariano Diaz.
The team is on a great run of form right now and winning the Supercopa should only boost the player’s optimism and focus moving into the spring.
