Midfielders

Casemiro: 10/10

Real Madrid’s MVP contender for the season, Casemiro, was also the best player in January. He has a genuine claim to being the best CDM currently in the world.

While his defensive abilities have always been praised, his new-found composure on the ball has been immense for Madrid in dealing with high-pressing teams.

He also scored two goals this month, both against Sevilla in La Liga where Madrid was in desperate need of a player to pop up and help the offense. Another unreal month from Casemiro!

Toni Kroos: 10/10

The only other player who comes close to Casemiro in terms of performance this month is Kroos. The German Maestro is back to his very best and scored a great goal against Valencia in the Supercopa.

He also recorded three consecutive assists in two games.

Luka Modric: 7.5/10

The 34-year-old Croatian midfielder isn’t what he used to be.

He has five appearances this month and has managed two goals. His main problem seems to be consistency. While he performs admirably in some games, in physically demanding games he struggles to make an impact.

Isco: 7/10

Another player who struggles with consistency is Isco. On his day, he is vital to Los Blancos but he fails to inject himself into the attack in every game. The same issue persisted this month.

Fede Valverde: 9.5/10

Fede would probably receive 10 just for his last-ditch tackle vs. Atletico in the Supercopa final. He has simply been a revelation for Madrid this season and his performances this month proved why he deserves to start over Modric.

James Rodríguez: 6.5/10

James made his return from injury this month for Los Blancos. He only played two games and seemed out of touch in both, but seems to be slowly getting his form back.
