Come the end of last season, it seemed Luka Modric was in a losing battle with time. At this point of his career, age often sees players slow down considerably and 2018/19 seemed to be that campaign for the Croatian. However, this season, he has shown that he still has gas in the tank.

Against Osasuna, the former Ballon D’or winner was simply sensational throughout the 90. Effortlessly covering ground as he dictated the tempo of the game. His 4 key passes were unmatched as he created considerable danger in the final third, having a huge role in 3 of Real’s 4 goals.

He also completed 3 dribbles and defensively contributed 3 tackles and 2 interceptions – capping off a complete performance in midfield. Whilst he may not start every game, Zidane has mastered his utilisation of Modric, allowing him to still have maximum impact quite often when he features.
