Real Madrid: Player Ratings from frustrating loss to Manchester City
Attack
Isco – 8
Isco has become one of Zidane’s weapons for big games. The Spaniard is granted an all-access pass to roam wherever he feels necessary and it once again paid off. Not only was Isco creative and threatening to the defence of City, but he also fired home the opening goal of the game giving Madrid the lead.
Karim Benzema – 5
It hurts to say but Benzema looked lost out there. After a great start to the season, the number nine has gone cold over the past few weeks and the game against City was no different. He looked offbeat and only had one shot on target which was a header that didn’t do much to test Ederson who was in goal for City.
Vinicius Jr. – 8
Like Isco he was one of the brightest players on the pitch. His link-up and interplay with Mendy was a joy to watch and he caused problems for defenders all night long. His removal from the game seemed odd considering how effective he was. That being said, it’s great to see how much his game is improving every time he steps onto the pitch.
Substitutes
Gareth Bale – 5
Few had reason to believe he would start the game but many happy he didn’t. His introduction seemed like it fuels the fire inside of him but there was nothing more than a few sparks. Bale did very little to impact the game, the most he was on camera was protesting the red card shown to Sergio Ramos.
Luka Jovic – N/A
