Real Madrid: Karim Benzema’s influence and 3 keys to a Clasico win
3) The duo of Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr.
There were a lot of fans who wanted Luka Jovic to start this game ahead of Karim Benzema as the no. 9. But when the squad lists came out, Jovic was not included at all. That almost certainly guarantees that Benzema will start the game, even if Mariano Diaz has been included as Diaz hasn’t played for the White in the League in a while.
While Benzema certainly looks out of form, there’s no doubt he deserves to start ahead of everyone else as the striker. He has been the star player of this team ever since Cristiano Ronaldo left and has scored a lot of goals since then. Most importantly, his link-up plays are very important to how the team attacks and without him, the team tend to struggle in attack.
Vinicius Jr. will just be as important as Benzema for the team in this game. With Eden Hazard injured and out, Vinicius looks to be the most natural replacement in the squad. He’s going to be the creative spark and the ball progressor out on the flanks for the team. With his ability to dribble out of tight spaces, he will be the key to breaking Barcelona’s defense.
Combined, the two will be extremely important for Los Blancos to score and win this game and restore the Whites on the top of the table.
