Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic has a bright future in world football, and even though he’s rarely featured for Los Blancos this season, that hasn’t stopped clubs from showing interest in the backup striker.

During the winter transfer window, we saw Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic linked to multiple notable clubs, including PSG and Tottenham Hotspur. A move seemed incredibly unlikely.

Firstly, Real had just purchased Jovic and remain high on his ability. Secondly, Jovic was the clear top backup to Karim Benzema, and Mariano Diaz seemed the more likely of the two backups to leave in the winter.

Both Mariano and Jovic have stayed in Madrid, and while Jovic had a couple of bright moments in the second half of the season, it was Mariano who stole the show with a game-sealing goal within 30 seconds of his entrance into El Clasico.

Jovic has found it difficult to find playing time behind Benzema, which is understandable. Some fans have criticized Jovic for not taking advantage of all his opportunities, but most Madridistas are patient and supportive of Jovic.

He’s also had a backheel assist and a goal in the second half of the season, so he is showing his ability when actually on the pitch.

According to a report from Mirko Calemme of AS, Napoli are the latest team to show interest in Jovic. If they are unable to keep Arkadiusz Milik on their books beyond the 2020-2021 season, they may choose to replace the Poland international with Jovic.

Although Jovic is younger, he’s proven to be a more consistent goal-scoring threat and a better all-around player than Milik, who has obvious ability but can be frustrating.

A move between Real Madrid and Napoli for Jovic seems highly unlikely since a few things behind the scenes would have to take place in order for Napoli to show real interest. Then there’s the obvious question of whether or not Real would even want to sell such a talented young striker in the first place. Los Blancos spent 60 million euros on Jovic, and if they are patient, they can recoup that value or make him the future starting No. 9 to succeed Benzema.

Real Madrid have interest in Kalidou Koulibaly and Fabian Ruiz, with the latter closely linked to Los Blancos. While both of those players are important, Real’s biggest question marks are at the forward positions, so selling Jovic to get one of those two in return would not be the best idea.

Keep a close eye on Napoli’s interest in Jovic. A deal is, again, almost impossible to envision happening, but it is interesting to see that other clubs value Jovic. This is a sign that Jovic is a quality player worth believing in.
