Real Madrid attacking midfielder Oscar Rodriguez wasn’t one of the most heralded loanees this past season, but he quietly had an excellent season at Leganes.
Martin Odegaard, Dani Ceballos, and Takefusa Kubo were the “big three” of the midfield players Real Madrid loaned out of the 2019-2020 season. Odegaard shined for Real Sociedad as one of La Liga’s best players, Ceballos eventually impressed Arsenal with his talent, and Kubo proved to be too good for relegation candidates Mallorca.
However, another attacking midfielder quietly made a name for himself in La Liga by scoring wonder goals and doing his best to carry a Leganes team destined for relegation.
Oscar Rodriguez scored more goals from outside the box than any player in La Liga not named Lionel Messi, joining the Barcelona superstar and Odegaard as the league’s most lethal direct free kick takers.

As a whole, Oscar scored seven goals with two assists for Leganes, doing his best to lead the team to victory each and every week.
His performances have caught the eye of another La Liga club, who would reportedly like to sign the loanee to Leganes on a permanent deal from Real Madrid.
Jose A. Espina of AS reports that Real Betis would like to sign the 21-year-old. They want to either sign him outright from Los Blancos or sign him with an option to buy.
And per the report, Madrid are expected to agree to a deal, but they would do what they have done with players like Casemiro and Mariano in the past.
They would sell him but include an option in the deal that allows them to buy the player back if he shines to a high enough degree.
Betis have an exciting collection of talent despite their down season, and they showed that attacking talent in their 2-1 win over Madrid before the season ended. Nabil Fekir is one of the league’s best players, Joaquín is still a star at the age of 38, Emerson is a top-level right back, Loren Morón is a goal-scorer, Marc Bartra and Sidnei are great defenders, and former Madrid man Sergio Canales can cause problems.
So throw Oscar in there, and you get an even more exciting Betis team.
Oscar is known for his natural talent and versatility. Although he’s best as a No. 10, he can use either foot and can therefore play comfortably as a playmaker on the left or right. A plus athlete, Oscar is one of the most underrated and exciting attacking players in La Liga.
