This coming summer transfer window, Real Madrid will prioritize goals. And Mauro Icardi could join Kylian Mbappe as a prime target from PSG.

In an ideal world, Florentino Perez would sign Kylian Mbappe from PSG and bring the France superstar to Real Madrid, where he’d likely reach new heights. But PSG know how valuable Mbappe is to them and won’t sell the player at any price, unless they have absolutely no hope at keeping him long-term.

Real Madrid aren’t just interested in Mbappe, though. Other PSG stars are on their radar, and with Neymar and Mauro Icardi more likely to be sold this coming summer, they shouldn’t be ruled out as options for Los Blancos.

Mundo Deportivo reports, via Football-Espana.net, that Real Madrid have “reopened” interest in Icardi, who is coming off an exceptional season for PSG.

More from The Real Champs

Unlike Neymar and Mbappe, though, Icardi isn’t on the books in Paris. He played for PSG in the 2019-2020 as a loanee from Inter Milan, who are keen to sell Icardi after the superstar striker rehabbed his value.

Icardi played to his usual, world-class standard on the pitch without any issues off the pitch, so Inter, who are settled with Romelu Lukaku as an even better veteran striker in the lineup, are ready to cash-in.

He would be a risky signing for Real Madrid, but there’s no doubting his quality. The 27-year-old is in the prime of his career and is right up there with Sergio Aguero and Robert Lewandowski as one of the world’s most lethal and accomplished finishers.

Furthermore, playing with the likes of Angel Di Maria, Neymar, Mbappe, and breakout star Pablo Sarabia allowed Icardi to develop his link-up play.

Icardi would likely cost 70 million euros, which is a reasonable price for a striker of his quality. The Argentina international scored five goals in six Champions League appearances for PSG, as well as 12 goals and 2 assists in 14 starts and 1,268 total minutes in Ligue 1.

The efficiency Icardi shows in front of goal would be huge for Real, but it seems like Los Blancos will be more interested in goal-scoring wide forwards like Sadio Mane. That way, Real can keep starting Karim Benzema and won’t have to make major deviations from their current system. If they target Icardi, then they have to make some changes and could sell or loan Luka Jovic.

dark. Next. Will Real Madrid let Bale go for free?

Icardi doesn’t look like a top option for Real Madrid, but it isn’t surprising to hear they are doing their due diligence with a top No. 9.
