Incredible Production

Ferran Torres is a talented young player who can explode with a better supporting cast and more consistent coaching and organizational support at a club like Real Madrid. Last season, he scored four goals with four assists in 1,776 La Liga minutes, leading the team in passes into the penalty area as a right winger.

He showed an ability to both score goals and get the ball into the box effectively, which was just as big of an issue for Real as scoring goals. Their problems penetrating the opposition penalty area played a big role in their inability to score.

A dynamic dribbler, Torres created more shots and goals off completed dribbles than any other player on Valencia last season on a per 90 minute basis, which is no surprise considering he completed 1.7 dribbles per game. Compared to Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes – two young wingers on Real Madrid – Torres was even more productive and dynamic. That’s not to say Torres has more upside than either or is a better player, but it speaks to his development and the rapid experience he’s building at the age of 20.

Torres also led Valencia players in touches in the attacking third and progressive distance carried among non-defenders per 90 minutes, which isn’t surprising considering he also led the team in successful dribbles completed per 90. He was everywhere, and it wasn’t easy to take the ball off him when he got going either.

All of these numbers show Torres is on the precipice of a breakout season. He can add so much to the right side of the formation as a ball-carrier a la Vinicius and Eden Hazard, taking pressure off Dani Carvajal or forming a deadly combination with Achraf Hakimi. And with Hakimi and Carvajal, Torres can have even more freedom to up his goal-scoring numbers.
