Real Madrid: 3 most underrated players in the team
2. Dani Carvajal
Los Blancos starting right-back for almost seven years now has quietly been playing very well this season. Dani Carvajal was diagnosed with a heart problem back in 2017, forcing him out of the team for a couple of months. He returned soon but since then has been criticized for not being the same player he was.
In 2016-17, Carvajal was easily one of the best, if not the best right-back in the world. But he has failed to replicate that form due to which fans have been asking for him to be replaced by Achraf Hakimi. While Hakimi has been impressive at Borussia Dortmund, Carvajal hasn’t been as disappointing as fans are making him out to be.
While Carvajal hasn’t been in the same form he used to be, he still has been playing quite well, especially this season. He suffers from consistency issues and drops some stinkers from time to time but has put in impressive shifts this season to string together runs of good performances.
He’s also extremely hard-working, running up and down the right flank offering support in attack and at the same time covering defensively. He has been a bit questionable defensively some times but most of the time makes up for it with his continuous motor.
Considering that Hakimi is much weaker defensively than Carvajal, it makes no sense for Carvajal to be criticized while being compared to Hakimi. Dani Carvajal is still Madrid’s best right-back and a player who has been very good this season and should get recognized for it.
