Real Madrid left back Marcelo could leave the club this summer if the right offer for both parties comes through, and it seems like PSG has interest in the club legend.
Although Marcelo has been usurped by Ferland Mendy as Real Madrid‘s starting left back and will also be behind Sergio Reguilon in the pecking order once he returns from loan at Sevilla, the Brazil international showed in El Clasico that he is still a starting-caliber player.
Marcelo’s declining athletic ability and suspect defense no longer make him a top option at the Santiago Bernabeu, but he was Zinedine Zidane‘s preferred option in several games. In addition to standing out in the Clasico, the 31-year-old had three assists in four Champions League appearances.
However, since Real Madrid have two of the best left backs in Europe, with both players being on the ascent under the age of 25, it may be time for Marcelo to go. The club legend has already been linked to Juventus for a second straight summer.
According to a report from Foot Mercato, PSG is also “exploring” Marcelo as a potential option at left back. PSG have also been linked, as have Juventus, with Achraf Hakimi, who could challenge Dani Carvajal for the starting right back position in Madrid next season if he returns from Borussia Dortmund.
Marcelo wouldn’t be as big of an acquisition for PSG, but it’d be more likely for the Ligue 1 giants to land him. He’d also be significantly cheaper.
Per the report from Foot Mercato, Real Madrid have told Marcelo that they will allow him to leave if a “satisfactory offer” is submitted to them. This assertion matches rumors in the Spanish press.
If Marcelo leaves, he can still play at a high level and deserves to join a top club, even though it would be hard watching him play for another Champions League title contender like PSG or Juventus, especially after everything he’s given to Real.
