Goals

Only one word is needed here and not an actual position. Wherever they can get them, Real Madrid desperately need more goals in 2020-2021.

Statistically speaking, they had the best defense in La Liga in 2019-2020 in terms of goals allowed, but they struggled to score. Karim Benzema led the way with 14 league goals, but he had trouble adding to his account after Eden Hazard’s injury in late November. After Benzema, center back Sergio Ramos placed second with five goals as the team’s primary penalty taker.

Real Madrid dream of signing Kylian Mbappe, but that deal isn’t happening this summer. Neither is a deal for Erling Haaland.

Sadio Mane, Leroy Sane, Jadon Sancho, and Timo Werner are among the exciting forwards linked to Real, but if there’s talk of a freeze on incoming transfers this summer then it’s hard to see them signing an of those players. Before COVID-19, only Sane and maybe Werner would have gone for less than 100 million euros on the open market.

Still, Real need to address their scoring deficiencies. A healthy Hazard and Marco Asensio will help, as could Martin Odegaard and Achraf Hakimi. But if anyone can step up as the answer on the current roster, then it would be Luka Jovic.
