Real Madrid: Grading the forwards from the 2019-2020 season
RW Gareth Bale
There is no doubt that Gareth Bale was Real Madrid’s worst forward this season, but it didn’t seem like that would be the case in September. Bale looked like an asset, scoring a brace to rescue a point against Villarreal and then looking like the only real threat against PSG in an embarrassing Champions League loss.
But thereafter, Bale’s season was marred by injury and inconsistency. When Bale did see the pitch, he looked rusty and sluggish. Bale isn’t the player he once was, and in order to return to some form of effectiveness, it’s clear a change in scenery is needed. As sad as it is to say, the fans have indeed turned on the club legend.

LW Eden Hazard
Finally, we come to the 100 million euro left winger, Eden Hazard. The Premier League icon joined Real Madrid in the summer with a weight of expectations, but he struggled to meet them initially due to a nagging injury from the pre-season and a great deal of pressure.
But once Hazard was fully integrated into the team, he was easily the team’s best player. Hazard was clearly a cut above the rest, tearing up La Liga in late October and early November. Per WhoScored.com, Hazard averaged well over three dribbles per game and three fouls drawn per game, pacing Real in both statistics.
Hazard suffered two serious injuries that derailed his season, but when he was healthy, there is no doubt he was a difference-maker – goals and assists be damned.
