Center Back

CB Dayot Upamecano

RB Leipzig center back Dayot Upamecano seemed close to a deal with Bayern Munich and may prefer to stay in the Bundesliga, but it can be difficult to turn down clubs like Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, especially with Zinedine Zidane reportedly high on the French center back.

For now, it doesn’t look like Upamecano will make a move to Arsenal, Bayern, or some other team, and it will be interesting to see if he even switches teams this summer at all.

Upamecano is clearly the best defender available on the transfer market. He is an intelligent center back who can do it all, including aiding the attack with the ball at his feet. A great passer, Upamecano would be a dream fit on paper for Real Madrid.

CB Mohammed Salisu

Real Valladolid center back Mohammed Salisu is a far more realistic target than Upamecano with a modest release clause and plenty of links to Madrid. Both Valladolid and Madrid enjoy a good relationship, and the club from Spain’s capital certainly got a close look at what Salisu can do in their head-to-head action in 2019-2020.

Salisu is already one of the best center backs in La Liga. At 21, he can be a future starter for Real, and he would immediately join Eder Militao as a competent backup. Since Real’s starting center back duo is entrenched, signing a cheaper option is more likely than a marquee signing such as Upamecano.
