Through two days of training, Real Madrid’s first team is getting back into a rhythm. There have been a couple of players who have impressed and should be crucial in Zinedine Zidane‘s squad when play resumes.

There is little information coming out of Real Madrid’s training sessions with the health of players, coaches, staff, and media members at a premium while Spain continues to combat the coronavirus.

However, in the limited news we have received, there are a couple of players in Zizou’s first team who are delighting. According to reports, both Luka Modric and Vinicius Junior look to have not lost a step during the last two months and have been the two most impressive players.

It’s funny to think that the two top performers are a young up and comer and a veteran who is now 34.

The good news for Real Madrid moving forward is that Vini can play in Eden Hazard‘s place on the left-wing until he is cleared to return and Modric can slot in alongside his close friends Toni Kroos and Casemiro. He can also be used as a super substitute to replace Fede Valverde late in matches if he’s needed.

While it is good to hear that Los Blancos have two critical pieces of their lineup performing well, players are working with the ball individually and there are no scrimmages or small group drills going on.

"“The squad completed the second training session of the week at Real Madrid City. Zidane led a session that was conducted under the strict health guidelines of the protocol set by LaLiga due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The players trained on the fields of Real Madrid City, where they carried out individual exercises with and without the ball. Jović and Mariano worked inside the facilities.”"

It’s also worth pointing out that Luka Jovicwho fractured his foot in the last week – and Mariano Diaz worked alone in the gym as a part of their rehab programs.

What problem is Mariano dealing with? When was he injured and why has the club failed to mention anything about his injury if he does in fact have one?

I’ve mentioned it before and I will say it again: there is some underlying problem between Zidane and Mariano that is causing the striker to be left out of the squad constantly.

Maybe we will get some more information regarding the situation in the coming days.
