Real Madrid : 3 players who need to step up in 2020
Real Madrid ST Luka Jovic
Bought from Eintracht Frankfurt for a reported €60 million, it was clear from the beginning that Luka Jović would be a player for the future and would mostly play as a substitute this season. But this season has not gone according to plan for the Serbian striker.
While it was clear he would be playing second fiddle to Karim Benzema this season, Jović has had trouble settling into life at Madrid. At the start of the season, he just seemed to be unlucky with his goals and it only seemed like a matter of time before he started scoring again. Soon it was clear that he was losing his confidence too by missing out on easy goals.
It didn’t help that most of his appearances are off the bench and at the very end of the games. Of course, there was the Spanish super Cup where he started both the games but couldn’t score any goals.
He recently also got into a controversy wherein he seemed to have broken quarantine rules back in his home country Serbia. To add to that, he returned to Real Madrid training after the pandemic break with a fracture and the situation seems to be worsening for him.
Whatever the case, when he returns from this injury he’ll be under a microscope. He’ll need to step up his performances, especially with Erling Håland’s breakout season at RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund. The Whites have recently been linked with the player and might pull the trigger if Jović doesn’t step up soon.
