Real Madrid will have to turn to its young players next season.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Real Madrid won’t be able to splash major cash on the world’s best players in the summer 2020 transfer market. Stars like Paul Pogba, Erling Haaland, and Kai Havertz could be immediate difference-makers for Los Blancos, but all three of them will cost at least 80 million euros, even factoring reduced prices.

While Real could sell players to buy stars, it’s simply not feasible to expect them to find enough teams interested in paying premium for veteran players on high wages like Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez. And others like Mariano Diaz and Lucas Vazquez, if sold, simply wouldn’t garner a high enough price to be used on a star player.

Realistically, Real Madrid’s decision-makers aren’t even concerned with new transfers or upgrades of any kind. Their goal will be to find a way to maintain the club’s financial situation and continue to remain competitive.

And Real Madrid have a deep, talented roster that is capable of competing for titles without new stars. No matter how amazing Haaland and Pogba are, for example, Real do have great young players in their own right, including at those positions.

Luka Jovic didn’t get many opportunities in his first season, but Los Blancos spent 60 million euros on him for a reason. He’s a future star. Meanwhile, center midfielder Fede Valverde, even at the age of 21, is already a star.

In 2020-2021, Los Blancos will have to trust their young players like never before, and they have so many players either coming back from loan or waiting for an opportunity.

Achraf Hakimi and Sergio Reguilon can be key contributors at fullback, and a returning Martin Odegaard could be a superstar at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Meanwhile, like Jovic, Brahim Diaz is just waiting for his chance to show his class. The same goes for Dani Ceballos in midfield. Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Junior are two of the best young forwards in the world.

Attacking midfielder Reinier Jesus is that caliber of a prospect, too, even though expectations must be even more tempered since he was only signed in the winter window.

There’s a joke that players returning from injury, such as Marco Asensio, feel like “new signings”. But in a lot of ways, Real Madrid have a roster full of these so-called “new signings”, who bring in the added excitement of being young, dynamic players.

The “Revolution” is all about the future, and there’s no better way for Zinedine Zidane to make a push toward the future for Real Madrid by utilizing young players and trusting them. Players like Rodrygo, Militao, Brahim, and Jovic have difference-making ability on par with some of the players Los Blancos have been linked to.

They may not be able to make any signings, but that can mean big things for the young players, who have opportunities they can seize in 2020-2021.
