Real Madrid attacking midfielder Oscar Rodriguez has been a major breakout star in La Liga.

Oscar Rodriguez may play for a team that will be relegated at the end of the season in Leganes, but the Real Madrid loanee has found a way to distinguish himself as one of the best attacking midfielders in the league.

His shooting range makes him a deadly proposition for any opponent, as he can score from nothing and is particularly lethal from free kicks. Oscar has scored nine goals with two assists for Leganes this season, doing everything possible to keep his current club afloat in La Liga.

But Oscar will be ready for a new, personal challenge in 2020-2021 with a different club. Real Madrid could loan him again, or they could even sell him with a buy-back clause, since their current policy is to sell before buying. And in the likes of Eduardo Camavinga, there are players the club does want to buy at positions of need in 2020.

More from The Real Champs

According to a report from MARCA’s Jose Felix Diaz, Villarreal, who are fighting for a Europa League place in 2020-2021, are the frontrunners to sign Oscar Rodriguez.

Real Madrid are currently asking for 10 million euros in exchange for 50 percent of Oscar’s rights, and they want an option to purchase the 21-year-old back should he impress at a new club.

It’s a similar strategy to what Real Madrid recently did with striker Mariano Diaz, though Mariano was older when he made that move to Lyon. Mariano was bought back, but he hasn’t been given many opportunities to shine at Real.

Oscar could suffer a similar fate, since Real have so many great attacking midfielders.

Takefusa Kubo and Martin Odegaard have also been highly impressive on loan, and Los Blancos are excited for what winter signing Reinier Jesus can do. Reiner has the most tactical intelligence and upside of any of those players.

That said, Oscar could have a long-term future with Real, given his shooting ability and creativity. Per WhoScored.com, Oscar is averaging 1.4 dribbles per game, 1.3 fouls drawn per game, and 1.1 key passes per game at Leganes this season.

At Villarreal, Oscar would get to play with some excellent attackers, such as Samuel Chukwueze and Gerard Moreno. It could be the right environment for Oscar to take one more step towards true stardom in La Liga.
