Lucas Vasquez – 6.5/10

Vasquez had a tough task of filling in Carvajal’s shoes in the right-back position. His positioning was questionable, and he struggled to keep up defensively, but the Spaniards work in the makeshift backline was commendable on the ball.

He still managed to get in two tackles, an interception, and a clearance.

Going forward, he was a constant outlet on the right and contributed two key passes in the 90 minutes.

Eder Militao – 7/10

Militao continued his man of the match performance against Athletic Club with another praiseworthy display against Alaves.

He made a vital intervention to prevent Lucas Perez from going one on one versus Courtois in the seventh minute when the score was still nil-nil.

The Brazillian continued to be sound at the back throughout the game except at one occasion when Oliver Burke skillfully got past him. He had three clearances, two interceptions and won two aerial duels.

Raphael Varane – 6.5/10

Varane had a solid defensive performance in his return from injury. He did take his time to get used to a makeshift backline but grew into the game and kept things simple.

The French World Cup Winner made a significant clearance off the line in the 2nd minute when Alaves still looked threatening.

His positional play was excellent and did not let anything through him. Varane had two interceptions and two blocks in the match.

Ferland Mendy 7.5/10

Mendy continues to prove what a splendid player he is. The former Lyon man had another exceptional performance for Los Blancos. His side of the pitch was locked down in defense.

He also got forward frequently and won the penalty that gave Real Madrid the lead. Mendy completed three dribbles and one key pass in the match.
