Midfielders

Carlos Casemiro – 7/10

Casemiro continues to be an indispensable figure in Zidane’s midfield. He is a prime reason for Real Madrid’s best defensive record in the 21st century.

He won two aerial duels and three interceptions. One of his interceptions was the crux that started the move for the first goal.

Casemiro also continues to improve his passing ability. He spread the ball around with such finesse that it was a joy to watch. He completed 91 percent of his passes, including seven longballs and one key pass.

Luka Modric – 9/10

What more is there to say about this gem of a player? He is almost 35, and for the last couple of games, he has been playing like he is in his prime.

Luka Modric was a genius throughout the game. The former Ballon D’or winner became the architect of every Real Madrid’s move. He helped Los Blancos’ control possession and put on a sublime display of passing.

Modric completed three dribbles and three key passes in the match. He also provided the assist for Benzema’s first goal. The 34-year-old put on a man of the match performance.

Toni Kroos – 8/10

Toni Kroos is ever reliable in the midfield, and he looked like he can do no wrong against Villareal. He completed seven out of seven long balls, provided two key passes, and completed 99 percent of his 66 passes.

The German World Cup winner should consider himself unfortunate not to have scored as his thunderous shot at goal was denied by the crossbar.
