Shoot more frequently

In a lot of ways, these three things go hand-in-hand. Rodrygo would have more confidence on the left than right and would be more likely to shoot from that position, especially with more confidence. But at the end of the day, Real Madrid need their talented wide forward to take more shots when there is an opening.

Here’s why. Rodrygo has the ability to become a top-notch goal-scoring wide forward, and that’s something Los Blancos need badly. His perfect hat trick against Galatasaray offered a glimpse of his lethal finishing skills.

Also note this statistic. According to FBRef.com, Karim Benzema was the only player who averaged more goals per 90 minutes minus penalties in all competitions than Rodrygo. And the difference was slim. Benzema averaged 0.49 goals per 90, while Rodrygo averaged 0.46 goals per 90.

That’s a great rate. That means for every two full games, Rodrygo scored a goal. As a first-year player at the world’s biggest and most pressurized club.

So you can see how hard it is to develop the confidence to shoot, but Real Madrid should encourage Rodrygo to go for it in 2020-2021. With a shot on target on 59.3 percent of his attempts – second in all competitions only to FIFA 20 cover star Eden Hazard – Rodrygo has the accuracy to make his chances count.
