Real Madrid won their La Liga with pretty much the same squad as last season thanks to massive improvement in some of their players.

Real Madrid secured their 34th La Liga vs. Villareal with only three changes in the line-up as compared to last season. The same team that failed miserably last season is La Liga Champions this season thanks to multiple factors.

One of the reasons for this turnaround has been due to how much some players have improved compared to the last season.

Some have even gone to have the best season of their careers this season. While there a quite a few players who have improved, we take a look at the three who have improved the most.

When Real Madrid signed Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea after the 2018 World Cup, the consensus was that Madrid had done a great deal. Courtois had just won the Golden Glove at the World Cup and Madrid had to spend just around £35 million to buy him from Chelsea.

What followed can only be described as a disaster for both the Belgian and Real Madrid. Courtois in the 2018/19 season seemed to be a completely different player than the one who won the Golden Glove. He seemed to be nervous and wasn’t showing the level he was known for.

This continued onto even the current season until the lowest point in his Madrid career when he made a mistake vs Club Brugge and was subbed off during the half-time. With Keylor Navas sold off at the start of the season and doing well at PSG, it seemed Madrid had made a huge mistake with Courtois.

But Courtois bounced back after that low point and embarked on a redemption arc worthy of a Hollywood script, that culminated with the Zamora trophy, first Madrid keeper to do so since Iker Casillas in 2008. Courtois has made crucial saves and single-handedly kept Madrid in games since the game vs. Club Brugge.

Courtois’ improvement this season has been massive and he has taken back his spot as one of the best goalkeepers in the world this season.
