Although Real Madrid were linked with big names at the center back position like RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano and Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar before March, the club doesn’t need to search or spend for a center back of the future. Not only is Sergio Ramos still going strong next to Raphael Varane, but Los Blancos have unearthed a gem in Eder Militao.

A standout in 2018-2019 for FC Porto, Militao has made a successful move to the Santiago Bernabeu, and he quieted the rumor mill by putting in some massive performances in La Liga’s return. None of those performances was bigger than him shutting down Inaki Williams on two counterattacks as the arguable Man of the Match in a 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao at San Mames.

Militao has produced the goods multiple times in his first season with Real Madrid. The 22-year-old Brazilian has averaged a combined three tackles and interceptions per game, completing over 87 percent of his passes. He owned Getafe and Osasuna in the first half of the season, in addition to his two clean sheet performances against Bilbao.

Next season, Militao could get even more minutes for Ramos and more chances to show Zinedine Zidane and the fans that he can be a world-class center back for Los Merengues. Like the other players on the list, Militao has all the mental and physical tools to excel at Real.
