Real Madrid could sign talented Spanish DM at huge discount
Real Madrid need to give Casemiro some help in defensive midfield, but their options are limited due to the financial crisis.
Eduardo Camavinga is Real Madrid‘s top center midfield option going forward, but it’s highly unlikely they’ll sign the Rennes star, unless if the sensational teenager is willing to wait until 2021 to sign. While Camavinga would cost under 100 million euros, he would still cost well over 50 million euros, and it will be difficult for Real, who want to raise nearly 200 million euros in sales, to afford that right now.
However, Real Madrid do have weaknesses in the squad they need to fill despite winning their 34th La Liga title. Los Blancos have more than enough talent to compete in 2020-2021 without major signings, but they cannot afford to be thin at any position.
Real have the best defensive midfielder in world football in Casemiro, and he was one of the best players in the league alongside Karim Benzema, Thibaut Courtois, and Lionel Messi in 2019-2020. But with over 3,000 minutes played, he was overworked. Real need to give him some backup.
Espanyol have been relegated after a last-placed finish in La Liga, and Marc Roca could be available. Although he has a 40 million euro release clause, Mundo Deportivo’s Javier Alfaro reports that interested teams could sign the top-notch defensive midfielder for less than half of that.
Bayern Munich tried to sign him for 18 million euros, which, at the time, was a laughable attempt to snag a 23-year-old defensive midfielder with top potential. Espanyol unsurprisingly rejected the Bundesliga powerhouse’s advances.
But now in this economic crisis and with Espanyol headed to the Segunda, selling Roca for under 20 million euros is more than reasonable. And it’s reasonable for Real Madrid to pursue this deal, considering they have just sold Achraf Hakimi for 40 million euros. And other sales, such as Oscar Rodriguez, could be coming soon.
Los Blancos need to remain financially prudent. They cannot afford to make major signings, yes, but they can afford Marc Roca. As long as Zinedine Zidane is keen, the Spanish international coudl be a huge help to Real’s depth. With sales set to happen like James Rodriguez, midfield depth will be even more paramount, especially with the starters getting older.
