Real Madrid won the 2019-2020 La Liga title, but there are a handful of players who still have a point to prove.

The 2019-2020 La Liga campaign was a fruitful one for Real Madrid under Zinedine Zidane, even if the start to the season wasn’t ideal. Real withstood injuries and bounced back from a shaky start to the campaign to return to dominance in Spanish football, shaking off the stink of a lousy 2018-2019 La Liga season in which they finished behind both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

But there are still five players who will head into the 2020-2021 season in La Liga – and maybe abroad if on loan – with a point to prove.

GK Andriy Lunin

Andriy Lunin is one of the most impressive goalkeeper prospects in European football, and he has an interesting point to prove in 2020-2021. Real Madrid love Lunin and already trust him to be on the first team, but it will be difficult for him to obtain playing time behind Thibaut Courtois, who won the Zamora Trophy in 2019-2020 as La Liga’s best keeper ahead of fellow world-class shot-stoppers Jan Oblak and Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Lunin’s task is to prove that he’s already ready to receive regular game time for Real Madrid and to show that he is, even now, a much better option than Alphonse Areola. And for Lunin, those opportunities will come in the Copa del Rey, which Real Madrid did not do well in this past season.
