Real Madrid: 5 players with something to prove in 2020-2021
ST Luka Jovic
It’s honestly puzzling to see how frequently Luka Jovic is mired in transfer rumors, because it seems like Real Madrid would have to be in the wrong frame of mind to sell the 22-year-old striker merely a year after purchasing him for 60 million euros.
They may be holding out for a similar offer, but in a summer transfer window where Achraf Hakimi has gone for 40 million euros and Ferran Torres has gone for 37 million, it’s highly unlikely Real get that 50 million euro offer they seem to be holding out for.
Jovic is far more valuable to Real Madrid right now. He has the ability to be one of the best No. 9’s in the world, and there were times at Eintracht Frankfurt where he was at that level in 2018-2019. And at Real Madrid, looking past the stats that were unimpressive only due to the impossibility of getting playing time over the world-class Karim Benzema, Jovic showed those same flashes.
Backheel assists, clean volleys, link-up play, and work rate on the pitch. Those traits were all there from Jovic, and he should receive more playing time in 2020-2021. Real need to get more chances to evaluate the Serbian international, who, for them, has to be seen as an investment. Teams don’t get rid of investments so quickly, but a club like Real will want to see an early return.
Hopefully, Jovic can get an opportunity to provide that in the coming La Liga season.
