Chelsea are in the market for a new left back, and Real Madrid loanee Sergio Reguilon could be their best option.

As with attacking midfielder Takefusa Kubo, the suitors are starting to line up for Real Madrid left back Sergio Reguilon.

The young defender is coming off a sensational season with Sevilla, as he and Ferland Mendy were probably La Liga’s top two left backs this season. Reguilon made an impact on both ends of the pitch for Sevilla, helping the team qualify for the Champions League next season.

While Reguilon is tentatively expected to receive another loan move to the La Liga club, there’s speculation that he wants to start full-time with another club. And he even signed a new agent to further that speculation.

More from The Real Champs

Real Madrid reportedly received a transfer offer of just 20 million euros from Everton, and now there’s another Premier League club with interest in the 23-year-old.

According to a report from MARCA’s Santiago Siguero, Chelsea are the latest big club to have an interest in signing Reguilon. The report mentions that clubs in the Bundesliga and Serie A are also interested in Reguilon.

Chelsea currently have Marco Alonso and Emerson Palmieri at left back, but Emerson could move to Serie A, perhaps even Juventus, this summer.

Alonso is a great attacking player, but he leaves a lot to be desired defensively in a back four. He is more of a wing back. So Reguilon would be an upgrade over him at left back defensively without there being too much of a drop-off in the attack.

An ambitious team, Chelsea have already signed Timo Werner and are closing in on another Bundesliga superstar in Kai Havertz. This comes after they nabbed Hakim Ziyech from Ajax on a pre-agreed transfer.

But they need defensive help. Reguilon won’t be enough, but he could be an affordable upgrade at left back and would be a much more cost-effective signing than Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell. Between the two of them, Reguilon is coming off the better season.

If Reguilon wants to start for a big club, Chelsea could be his answer. Real Madrid fans should be prepared for Reguilon to go, because the Blues could make the 30 million euro offer that Los Blancos are looking for.

Of course, there’s no guarantee Reguilon leaves, and unless the transfer rumors really start to heat up and Real get an offer they can’t refuse, another loan at Sevilla is the likely end result.
