Real Madrid could use another young center back behind Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos, but since they already have the excellent Eder Militao, midfield depth is honestly the biggest need for Los Blancos in the summer 2020 transfer window.

Villarreal’s Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa is a player to watch closely from Real’s perspective. At first, it was a surprise when Real were linked to him, but he’s actually a strong backup option for Los Blancos. Anguissa isn’t a true defensive midfielder and is more of a box-to-box player, but he could play at DM, too.

Valued at 20 million euros by Transfermarkt, the player on the books at Fulham is also affordable. He showed last season that he can play at the highest level in La Liga, as he was one of the best center midfielders in the entire league, even if he didn’t get as many plaudits as his legendary teammate Santi Cazorla.

Villarreal have a lot of ambitions. They have been linked to Francis Coquelin and could acquire either Takefusa Kubo or Oscar Rodriguez on loan from Real Madrid. And surely, they’d like to keep Anguissa.

Next. Real Madrid should hope James Rodriguez goes here. dark

But if they can’t, the 24-year-old Cameroon international is someone for Madridistas to consider as a midfield option. Anguissa had an excellent 2.4 dribbles per game with 1.1 fouls drawn per game on the offensive end. Defensively, he had 2.1 tackles per game and 1.2 interceptions per game with more than two aerial duels won per match. Anguissa is a quality La Liga player.
