Real Madrid striker Borja Mayoral impressed on loan at Levante, and he’s headed for a permanent transfer this summer.
Although most of the transfer rumors are focusing on Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez, whom Real Madrid must sell this summer. the first people to leave the team will be lesser-known players who are looking to gain more playing time elsewhere.
Striker Borja Mayoral has been frequently loaned out by Real Madrid, and while he’s a productive young striker, he has no real shot at ever starting for Los Blancos. The club has Karim Benzema entrenched, Luka Jovic developing behind him, and eyes on Erling Haaland just in case.
Mayoral is coming off a productive season at Levante, in which the 23-year-old scored eight La Liga goals with two assists in the city of Valencia. And now, he’s been receiving considerable interest from Lazio, who have qualified for the 2020-2021 Champions League.
According to a report from Sky Sport Italia, via Football-Italia.net, a big-name La Liga club is also showing interest in Mayoral. The striker could stay in the city of Valencia, as Valencia have reportedly submitted an offer of 15 million euros plus bonuses related to performance.
Real Madrid should like Valencia’s offer for Borja Mayoral
It’s a hefty offer for Mayoral, and it’s one that will challenge Lazio. They seem to want Mayoral, but after recently spending a little more than 15 million to sign striker Verdat Muriqi, Mayoral is probably no longer a priority for them. The striker situation should be handled now.
Valencia, on the other hand, could really use a player like Mayoral. They have lost some young, attacking firepower this summer after selling Ferran Torres to Manchester City, but they now have a lot of money to spend after getting 37 million euros (still not enough) for him.
Only two players scored as many goals as Mayoral in La Liga last season for Valencia. Maxi Gomez led the way with 10 in his first season there, while veteran center midfielder Dani Parejo had eight. And now that Parejo is gone with Torres, the need for goals has increased.
Mayoral fills that need. For Real Madrid, 15 million euros with additional bonuses is a strong offer. Los Blancos need the money, and 15 million euros is nothing to scoff at. It should be about what a young, talented striker is worth, but since Mayoral offers little to Real, there won’t be much hesitation from them.
It’ll take more negotiating with Lazio and other clubs, but it looks like Valencia stand a great chance of signing a quality forward.
