Real Madrid are receiving offers for left back Sergio Reguilon, but they don’t want to say goodbye to him forever.

There are two transfer philosophies Real Madrid seem to have. First, they do not like to hold back young players by keeping them on the bench forever and would rather see them play elsewhere, even if it means making a sale. And second, when they do make that sale, they do everything they can to avoid making it permanent.

Even with Achraf Hakimi, Real Madrid sold him to Inter Milan for 40 million euros but included a clause that gives them the right of first refusal to any transfer offer Inter receives for the Moroccan fullback.

Now, Real are poised to sell another promising young fullback in Sergio Reguilon, who greatly increased his transfer value with a string of stellar performances en route to Sevilla’s latest Europa League triumph.

According to a report from Defensa Central, PSG have shown a high degree of interest in Reguilon, as they are looking for an upgrade at left back and have been impressed with Reguilon’s recent displays in the Europa League.

Real Madrid want a buy-back clause for Sergio Reguilon

But per DC, Real Madrid will only do this transfer deal with PSG, Chelsea, or any other interested big club if they can insert a buy-back clause into the deal. Understandably, Los Blancos value Reguilon greatly and do not want to transfer the young left back without having the option of receiving him again if they realize they need him.

Real Madrid have used this strategy with players like Casemiro and Mariano Diaz. In the case of the former, Casemiro has gone on to become the best defensive midfielder in the world, playing a crucial role in Real’s success since his re-purchase from FC Porto. Mariano, meanwhile, was bought back from Lyon a couple of years ago but has yet to earn a spot.

Doing this kind of deal with Porto or Lyon isn’t difficult, but it remains to be seen how open to a buy-back clause a bigger club like Chelsea or, especially, PSG would be. Sergio Reguilon could be a major star for PSG, for example, and they probably wouldn’t want to have to sell back a key player for less than market value with an inserted buy-back clause.

But for Real Madrid, the option to re-purchase Reguilon is essential. They are fans of Reguilon, know his talent, and believe in their young players. It’s never easy to see someone flourish with another club, even if Real would rather see Reguilon play well than sit on the bench. Remember, Real always have the option of loaning him back to Sevilla for another year, so it’s not like they have no other option.
