Real Madrid attacking midfielder Oscar Rodriguez is wanted by many La Liga clubs, and it sounds like Sevilla will be the ones to sign him.

Earlier this summer, Real Madrid attacking midfielder Oscar Rodriguez was closely linked to a move to Villarreal. But Villarreal ended up signing an even more highly-prized Real attacking midfielder on loan in Takefusa Kubo. There, Kubo is expected to be a centerpiece player under Unai Emery as a key component of an impressive Villarreal side.

Kubo also received plenty of interest around La Liga, including from Sevilla. The reigning Europa League champions are headed to the Champions League in 2020-2021 under Julen Lopetegui and have high ambitions.

They missed out on Kubo because they wanted an option to buy, so Villarreal benefited. But now that Oscar Rodriguez is still available, Sevilla look poised to gain a different great player.

Sending Oscar Rodriguez to Sevilla makes sense for Real Madrid

According to a report from Onda Cero, Oscar Rodriguez is “very close” to joining Sevilla on a transfer. Monchi and Jose Angel Sanchez are negotiating a partial-rights deal, as Real Madrid would like to retain 50 percent of Oscar’s rights in a transfer. That’s long been the expectation, even back when Oscar was linked to Villarreal.

Per Onda Cero, Sevilla and Oscar already have reached an agreement on personal terms.

It makes a ton of sense from Real’s perspective. Los Blancos need cash this summer, but Oscar is a hugely talented young player. He scored nine goals last season for Leganes, so fans can only imagine what the 22-year-old could be capable of at a team like Sevilla with even better players around him. Oscar could break out as a playmaker with the likes of Youssef En-Nesyri and Lucas Ocampos in his team.

Real Madrid could buy Oscar back at a later date if they see a need for him in the lineup and if he breaks out. They’ll own some of his rights, which is important and one of their favored strategies. But Oscar needs first-team playing time, which he would clearly not get at Real Madrid. The club has already recalled another standout 2019-2020 La Liga loanee in Martin Odegaard, so this is move to Sevilla is best for Oscar.
